Big news! The 2022 Toyota Tundra has been completely updated. The Tundra has an all-new exterior design, new interior design, new technology, new luxury features, new colors, and two new powertrains. Let’s dive into some of this newness. Toyota Tundra trims each come with their own standard perks and customizable features. The trims for the 2022 Toyota Tundra are SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. There are also two special packages that you can add to certain grades for more off-road performance or street style. The TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road Packages are available on select grades.
Let’s discuss the exterior.
The 2022 Toyota Tundra now has a revamped exterior. The boxy front end blends well with the rest of the robust silhouette. To light the way, the new Tundra is equipped with LED headlights, available dynamic sequential turn signals, and Daytime Running Lights. There’s also the new available auto-leveling headlights feature, which, like the name suggests, keeps the headlights level. Toyota wanted to remind its customers of the daring nature it came from. It definitely hit the nail on the head with the Tundra redesign. To improve efficiency, an active aero front splitter can be added to ride above the grille. Once you hit a speed above 37 mph, the splitter will change how the air moves around your truck, forcing it to change its path so the Tundra has maximum aerodynamic efficiency. From the forceful grille to the embossed “Tundra” on the tailgate, you can ride in style. The 2022 Tundra can come in White, Wind Chill Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, SuperSonic Red, Solar Octane, Smoked Mesquite, Army Green, Lunar Rock, or Blueprint.
The TRD Pro trim comes with the ability to add camo patterned accents. Additional features you can customize your exterior with are an integrated center LED light bar and marker lights.
The all-new aluminum-reinforced truck bed is ready for the cargo it’ll hold. Built to last and brush off any potential dents or scratches, the truck bed will endure years of hauling. The payload maxes out at 1,940 pounds. There is also an available Tailgate Release Bump Switch. Are your hands full, but you forgot to drop the tailgate before you picked up your ice chest? Simply bump the left tailgate with your shoulder and the Tailgate Release Bump Switch will lower the tailgate for you.
Pop the hood.
The big talk about the 2022 Tundra is the lack of a traditional V8 engine. Several customers are pleased with Ford’s V6 Ecoboost engine in the F-150 and we all know Toyota will do it better so there is nothing to worry about! The i-Force 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine pumps out 389 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque! The new 2022 Tundra also gets much better fuel economy in the process at up to 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. Each Tundra comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission and your choice of two-wheel drive or 4×4. Coming later is the i-Force Max hybrid variant. It expands on the core twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 by brilliantly pairing a motor-generator system built inside bell-housing to create an inline hybrid powertrain that produces 437 horsepower and a whopping 583 lb.-ft. of torque. As stated previously, the maximum towing capacity of the 2022 Toyota Tundra is 12,000 pounds.
With Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and Electronically Locking Rear Differential options, there are no obstacles that can get in between you and your destination, even if you’re destination is off the beaten path. The Multi-Link Rear Suspension will make sure that no matter how bumpy the trail under the tires is, the passengers will still have a positive experience within the cabin.
Open the door, and let’s discuss the cabin.
All-new features on the Tundra include a giant 14-inch center touchscreen, digital information gauge cluster, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, surround-view camera, and so much more! The center console itself offers plenty of storage with easy-to-maintain organization pockets. You can also find USB and charging ports in the same console. Extra storage space can be found under the rear seats in available models, so you can clear out the floorboard for your back passengers’ legs to sit comfortably. While each Tundra seat is molded to support its passenger, the front row seats have an available upgrade with the heated and ventilated options. Let more air into the cabin with both the power vertical rear window and an available panoramic moonroof.
The 1794 Edition trim takes its inspiration from the Wild West, and its interior reflects that with the premium leather trim. If the Capstone trim has caught your eye, then you can choose to decorate the interior with dark American walnut trim.
Technology
The touchscreen that is available for the 2022 Toyota Tundra is a 14-inch multimedia screen that offers you easy access to your music, maps, and phone calls. Some trims can come with a smaller screen at eight inches for those who don’t require a bigger screen. While connected to the touchscreen, your phone can also be charging, either from one of the multiple USB ports or from the wireless charging station.
