Fort Smith Mural Tour: Part 2
Fort Smith, Arkansas has become a thriving hub of urban and contemporary art over the last handful of years thanks to its cool murals all over downtown and beyond. In this blog, which is part one of Landers Toyota NWA’s continuing series we’ll explore more magnificent mural art throughout our neighboring Northwest Arkansas city. Many of the mural pieces are within walking distance of each other and each reflects the artist's unique style as well as transforms Fort Smith into a hotspot for American contemporary art in Arkansas.
Walala Pump & Go
Location: the main intersection of Grand Avenue and 11th street
The London-based French Camille Walala transformed a vintage gas station in downtown Fort Smith into a unique landmark and public mural entitled Walala Pump & Go. The mural features the artist’s signature geometric patterns and tribal pop style.
ALPHONSO TRENT
Location: ??101 North 2nd Street
Faculty and students of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith created this stunning mural in honor of renowned local jazz musician Alphonso Trent. Trent is one of the most influential African American musicians of the Golden Age of Jazz.
ANA MARIE
Location: 800 Garrison Avenue
Behind this Camry, you can see the beautiful flowers and mysterious tentacles of Ana Marie on Garrison Street in downtown Fort Smith. Painted by local artist Ana Marietta who hails from Puerto Rico, the subtle brush strokes and shading of hybrid creatures have become her trademark. She has painted other murals around the world in London, Miami, Turin, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Kyiv.
A day trip into downtown Fort Smith is something to experience with its vibrant mural art. Landers Toyota NWA in Rogers, AR is very proud of our neighboring communities and shares in the excitement of this art and what it has to offer to Northwest Arkansas.
